Pardon me Aethism

Pardon my atheism

The recent news that came from India where people overcrowded a temple and cause some structure to fail reminded of me something. Doesn’t this feel like we have heard about this one before? If your memory is hazy let me remind you all, does Bheri River’s suspension Bridge collapse in Western Nepal last year ring a bell. Yes, that’s what I am talking about. People believe that flocking stupidly to please the divine will secure a good position for them in their after death life. Let me not even get into what we as a Hindu religion believe in after life speculation (Swarga/Narka and what not).

I believe that people flocking into a temple or holy would have no sense other than calling for such calamities, needless to say creating a spot for terror targets. What happened in India and has been happening repeatedly in mosques or Iraq is one of the many self proclaimed yet subdued stupidities of human kind. What I mean here is that, there is no point in making a large crowd on one particular day of the year. I do visit Pashupati but not during the Shiva Ratri and I do go to "Ganesh Than" but I avoid Tuesdays. God on his or her best knowledge of the world does not know or care for a particular day. This Dashain Let’s leaves it to the crowds who likes to flock around to these holy shrines and let us sit home and enjoy the "Masu Chiuyra". Talking of which remind me of many dashain that I have missed since 1997 and this one will be missed as well. What will I be doing this Dashain, Ooh lets see probably sit here in front of my computer browsing net and thinking about Ghorle Khasi ko Kaan and my family who at this point in time has managed to spread all over the continent.

Nepal Closed again in Opposition to Federalism

hat are we doing now? We entrusted our
leaders to change the country and steer our “OLD NEPAL” to a “NEW Nepal”.
We the people of Nepal
mandated our new leaders to write a new constitution to develop the stable country.
Developments that have been stalled ironically right after the establishment of
“Democracy”. ...<< MORE >>

Nepal's Hydropower Potential

It’s just been just two days; the site/blog is not even fully built and despite having all the time in the world; I feel like it needs a great deal of commitment to keep this going.  I just happened to read this news about hydropower development perspective in Nepal. And I find it ironic that the Maoist led government is proposing a 10000 MW Hydropower Development and expects everyone around the world to pour money into Nepal and their ambitious plans.

Also it is note worthy that couple of days back Nepal signed a MOU to import 60 MW of electricity from India and 35 hours of load shedding per week probably keeps Nepal on the top of “Dark Country”. I have been wondering what were the insurgents thinking when they stalled the construction of so many development projects during there decade long insurgency.  I applaud the Mao leaders of Nepal, for at least thinking about such an ambitious plan and showing that the development of Hydropower was their first priority l.

I understand that their insurgency was necessary for the upliftment of Nepal and I have no hesitation to say that the today’s rural Nepal is more informed and more empowered after this so called “People’s War”. However, my concern here and I know many other people will agree to this is what if they had left the development workers and projects out this conflict and concentrate their war some other way.

Anyways, the end point that I am trying to reiterate is,  if they had kept this optimism about Nepal’s hydropower development  during their insurgency , their target hydropower development at this point of time would have been reduced by 2000 MW ; and probably only 8000 MW more might have been left to achieve the 10000 MW goal.

I like to be optimistic and think that no other imminent insurgency will occur and push back our development prospective. If all of us are fighting for the development and enrichment of Nepalese life then let’s leave the development process out of the conflicts. I think only if we can be disciplined to leave the construction and development process out of such conflicts only then we can attract the investors. What do you say?
